This policy explains what personal information Before You Build collects, why, and what your rights are.
1. Who we are
Before You Build is a trading name of Yorkshire Build & Design Limited, company number 16808579. Registered office: 4 John Booth Close, Liversedge, WF15 7LB. We are the "controller" of your personal information.

2. What we collect
- Contact details: your name, email address and phone number.
- Project information: the quotes, plans, photos, addresses and other documents you send us, and the details of your project.
- Payment information: a record of what you bought and paid. Your card details are handled by Stripe, and we never see or store them.
- Messages: emails and other messages between us.
Please don't send us information we don't need, such as bank statements or ID documents.
3. How we use it, and why we're allowed to

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing unless you have agreed to it.
4. Who we share it with
We only share your information with trusted providers who help us run the business, and only as much as they need:
- our payment provider (Stripe)
- our email, document storage and video call providers
- our website hosting provider
- AI-assisted writing and document tools we use to help prepare reports, which are always checked and finalised by us
- our accountant and professional advisers
- our insurers, if there is a claim
We may also share information when the law requires it.
Some of these providers store data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, we rely on the legal protections the UK requires, such as approved contract terms or the UK–US data bridge.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your documents, reports and messages for up to 6 years after your service is completed, in case of questions or claims about our advice. We keep payment and accounting records for 6 years, as tax law requires. After that, we delete them securely.
6. Keeping it safe
We use password-protected accounts with two-step login, and only we can access your files.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- ask us to delete your information, unless we need to keep it for legal reasons
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it
- ask us to send your information to you or someone else in a usable format

8. Cookies
Our website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our payment pages, run by Stripe, use essential cookies to process payments securely and prevent fraud.
9. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on our website. See also our Terms & Conditions.
